Sermon Study Questions: Week of March 23, 2008

John 20: 1-18

Allan spoke about the resurrection of Christ and why it matters.
Christianity all comes back to the resurrection of Christ.
Resurrection is more than life after death; it means that God cares
about His creation and will redeem it. What difference does it make
in your life that Christ rose from the dead? At what point did the
resurrection become an essential truth in your walk with God? What
hope for redemption does Christ offer to you in your life, in your
community, and in the world?

Using the example of the New Zealand friends calling in the middle of
the night, Allan stated that Christ’s communication with his
disciples after the resurrection from the “new day” is a promise of
redemption for all; its “only a matter of time”. Does the
illustration help make sense of resurrection in a new way? Why or
why not? What does this make
you hopeful for? What call to new life do you long to receive?

After his resurrection, Jesus speaks personally and directly to Mary
in John 20:15-16. Reread this text. Of what does this passage
remind
us about the character of God? Reflect on what the implications of
these characteristics are for our relationship with God.

The power of death has been broken in the resurrection of Christ.
What are the implications?

God creates us for eternity, not just for this lifetime. What is the
difference? How are you living for eternity, in the midst of your
human life? How would you like to live?
